Rotation goals
Cognitive

1.     Demonstrate an understanding of the management of acute cardiopulmonary diseases, including myocardial infarction, shock, congestive heart failure, acute respiratory failure and anaphylaxis.

2.     Demonstrate an understanding of the acute management of orthopedic and general surgical problems, including long bone fractures and acute abdominal disease.

3.     Demonstrate an understanding of the acute management of neurological diseases, including coma, cerebral vascular accident, severe headache, meningitis and altered mental status.

4.     Demonstrate an understanding of acute management of acute gastrointestinal disease, including upper and lower gastrointestinal hemorrhage.

5.     Demonstrate the understanding of triage in referral of medical and surgical emergencies.

Procedural Objectives (Resident will demonstrate the following techniques):

1.     Appropriate wound care and suturing techniques

2.     Management of first, second and third degree burns

3.     Placement of central venous catheters

4.     Acute airway management, including nasotracheal and orotracheal intubation

5.     Management of cardiopulmonary arrest, including CPR, defibrillation and administration of appropriate drugs

1.     Demonstrate caring and compassionate attitude toward patients and their families.

2.     Maintain a professional working relationship with other members of the health care team
